Best to cut to the chase with this Kala KA-CG concert ukulele. It sounds much better than its price. And it sounds better than the KA-C on which it is based. The differences are in theory, minimal, but the end result is very impressive in comparison. Finished in high gloss, the KA-C feels and sounds better than other 'serious beginner' ukes, from either Kala or other makers. In truth it is a bit of bargain, given the full tone and seriously good projection.
Although a laminate mahogany body, something about the way the gloss finish forces the sound out of the soundhole makes this nice and loud. The tone is really well balanced - with treble notes picked out nicely in a medium tone. What do we mean by medium tone... well, its not bright and its not warm, its warm and bright! There is a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, simulated bone nut and saddle, and effective closed geared tuners. The action is decent, set up is good for a modestly priced ukulele and it looks very pretty with nice wood grain and black and white binding.
At this price, you can't really go wrong with this - it really is impressive
